Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to fill out the forms?
Yes. To qualify to compete and win awards the necessary forms must be completed.
Which forms should I submit?
All projects require at least 3 forms: Checklist for Adult Sponsor, Student Checklist with your attached Research Plan, and Approval Form. We have bundles these forms into a single download on the Forms page.
If your project features human participants, vertebrate animals, hazardous chemicals/materials or potentially hazardous biological agents require additional forms as well as Scientific Review Committee (SRC) approval prior to beginning your experiment.
What is the Scientific Review Committee (SRC)?
The SRC is a group of individuals knowledgeable about regulations concerning experimentation, especially with vertebrate animals and potentially hazardous biological agents. The SRC reviews and approves all projects in these areas before experimentation begins. The SRC also reviews the documentation for ALL projects to ensure that students have followed all applicable rules and that the project is eligible to compete.
How do I know which other forms to submit?
You can use the ISEF Rule Wizard. If you still aren’t sure, submit the forms required of all projects and we will contact you with a list of any other required forms.
Does my project require SRC approval?
The SRC meets weekly and reviews documentation for all projects. Experiments cannot begin until you receive approval from the SRC.
How will I know if my project is approved?
We will contact you via email when we receive your project to tell you where you are in the approval process. It is important that you provide us with an email address that you check often. All updates concerning your submission will be sent using this medium.
**NEW** Check the Status of Submission page to see where your submsiion is in the approval process.
I submitted my forms, but I haven’t heard anything. What do I do?
